Social Media, Gender and the Mediatisation of War: Exploring the German Armed Forces’ Visual Representation of the Afghanistan Operation on Facebook

Studies on the mediatisation of war point to attempts of governments to regulate the visual perspective of their involvements in armed conflict – the most notable example being the practice of ‘embedded reporting’ in Iraq and Afghanistan. This paper focuses on a different strategy of visual meaning-making, namely, the publication of images on social media by armed forces themselves. Specifically, we argue that the mediatisation of war literature could profit from an increased engagement with feminist research, both within Critical Security/Critical Military Studies and within Science and Technology Studies that highlight the close connection between masculinity, technology and control. The article examines the German military mission in Afghanistan as represented on the German armed forces’ official Facebook page. Germany constitutes an interesting, and largely neglected, case for the growing literature on the mediatisation of war: its strong antimilitarist political culture makes the representation of war particularly delicate. The paper examines specific representational patterns of Germany’s involvement in Afghanistan and discusses the implications which arise from what is placed inside the frame of visibility and what remains out of its view

Die Reliabilität beschreibt die Genauigkeit einer Messung. In diesem Beitrag wird das Konzept Reliabilität definiert und es wird erläutert, warum die Reliabilität einer Messung relevant ist. Danach wird diskutiert, welche Modellannahmen getroffen werden müssen, um die Reliabilität einer Messung zu schätzen und es werden fünf Methoden zum Schätzen der Reliabilität vorgestellt: die Re-Test Korrelation, die Parallel-Test Korrelation, die Split-Half Korrelation, die interne Konsistenz und das Schätzen der Reliabilität mit Strukturgleichungsmodellen. Abschließend wird in knapper Form auf Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede der klassischen Testtheorie und der Item-Response Theorie und deren Bedeutung für die Schätzung der Reliabilität eingegangen

Stumbling blocks of PPC: Towards the holistic configuration of PPC systems

Manufacturing companies often complain about the difficulties they face in meeting their customers' logistic requirements. Many blame the perceived inadequacies of their production planning and control (PPC) software for their performance deficits. The paper illustrates why this is only a partial view of the causes of the shortcomings. PPC software is just one of six configuration aspects of the entire PPC system. The authors argue that the configuration of the PPC aspects objectives, processes, objects, functions, responsibilities and tools has to be carried out methodically and consistently in order for the PPC system to function properly. The analysis of examples of so-called "stumbling blocks" of PPC, inadequate configurations of one or several of the aspects, supports this claim. The paper closes with the proposal of a checklist that the authors suggest as a first approach to ensure the consistent configuration of PPC systems

Variantenreiche Serienproduktion und PPS: Differenzierte Anforderungen an PPS-Systeme

Bei der Gestaltung der Produktionsplanung und -steuerung (PPS) ist eine Fülle von Faktoren zu beachten, wobei sich das besondere Augenmerk auf die Produktgestaltung richtet. Zum einen beeinflusst sie die Anforderungen an die PPS direkt über Zusammensetzung und Struktur des Produktes, zum anderen aber auch indirekt über Produktionsprozeß und -organisation, die beide auf das Produkt hin ausgerichtet werden. Deshalb ist es notwendig, die Produkte aus der Sicht der PPS zu bewerten, wenn die ins Auge gefaßten Ziele wie hohe Termintreue oder kurze Durchlaufzeiten zuverlässig erreicht werden sollen. Bei der Planung von Produktionskonzepten zeigt sich immer wieder, daß die Beschreibung "variantenreicher Serienfertiger" im Grunde nur den Einstieg in die Konzeptionsphase darstellt. Dahinter verbirgt sich eine Fülle höchst unterschiedlicher Ausprägungen, die differenziert zu beleuchten sind, um die PPS erfolgreich zu gestalten. Aufbauend auf dem gewandelten PPS-Verständnis werden im folgenden Ans atzpunkte und Beispiele dafür aufgezeigt, wie diese Anforderungen aufgenommen werden können
